Outreach workers from SLEMBA - the South London Ethnic Minority Business Association are out and about in the community ready to help people like you who want to know more about enterprise.
Their YES! Croydon project focuses on the BAME community, young people, women, lone parents, people with disabilities and people over 50 years old considering enterprise or self-employment. This is the focus for the whole programme.
People who take part in the project can benefit from free advice, workshops, seminars, mentoring, training, monthly enterprise clubs and much more.
'Commensse' is a service providing support and advice to potential and recently started social enterprises in Croydon. A social enterprise is a business, that might be a spin-off from a charity or voluntary group, for example.
This service provided by Croydon Voluntary Action aims to help voluntary and community organisations take a more businesslike approach to the way they do things, whether that means bidding for contracts, charging for some services or becoming a social enterprise (like the Big Issue or Jamie Oliver's 'Fifteen' restaurant).
Groups can also receive a grant of up to £1,000, and mentoring from professionals.
