Enterprise Learning
the 8-19 young people’s project

One of the cornerstones of Croydon Enterprise is nurturing the enterprising spirit of the youngest members of our community.

Our Enterprise Learning for 8-19 year olds is the hallmark of this commitment, and through this targeted and varied project we hope to help Croydon become the first borough to put enterprise on the curriculum of all its schools by 2016.

Since our launch, Croydon Enterprise has been pursuing a two-pronged approach – assisting and supporting adults to start up their own enterprises, while at the same time taking the idea of enterprise into the classroom, inspiring youngsters to consider it as a future career path.

The vision
Our vision is that young people will become more entrepreneurial and use their enterprise skills to gain the confidence to seek out and create a range of new opportunities that will improve not only their own life chances, but also help promote a more dynamic and diverse range of long-term opportunities for their communities.

What will young people gain?
Through a series of exciting learning experiences and activities we want to help young people develop:

  • enterprise capability (skills and attributes/attitudes)
  • financial capability (knowledge and skills)
  • business and economic understanding (knowledge)

How will we do it?
The project is seeking to promote enterprise through innovative and inclusive learning activities both in schools and outside in the wider community.

In schools and colleges we want to see enterprise learning as a natural part of all subject learning, across all ages with clear progression through the various key stages.

In order to raise awareness and embed enterprise, we need to find opportunities to train those working with young people, e.g. community workers, youth workers and all learning providers on how to engage young people in exciting and innovative learning activities.
