Croydon Enterprise is funding £116,000-worth of work to reduce business crime in deprived communities through the Safer Croydon Partnership Unit.
This anti-crime investment is in three main packages:
Wireless CCTV - £35,817
This will be used to target known and suspected offenders committing ‘priority crimes' - personal and commercial robbery, residential/non residential burglary and drugs supply.
Effectiveness will be measured by recording: number of offenders targeted broken down by crime type in deprived wards and number of offenders brought to justice as a result of the equipment.
RAID Control -£40,000
RAID Control is a proven security package anti crime measures that follows a police check.
The Croydon Enterprise funding will allow RAID Control equipment to be fitted in between and - 22 small retailers at risk of commercial robbery. Approximately 4 or 5 units will be installed each month November-March 2006/07.
Effectiveness will be measured by recording the number of:
- commercial robberies on small independent retailers fitted with RAID Control in deprived wards
- offenders arrested as a result of RAID control equipment in deprived wards
- offences brought to justice as a result of the equipment
Raid-control is a partnership initiative between the Police, the trade association for the security industry (British Security Industry Association) and representatives from the insurance and retail sectors, and other trade associations.
"Raid-control is an exciting approach to reducing crime; it worked for us and I can see it working for pharmacies in other parts of the country and in other retail premises."
- Andrew McCoig, Owner of two Chemists shops in Croydon.
