(RELEASED: 23 August 2007 )
RECYCLING ENTERPRISE

Eco Computer Systems Ltd, one of the new social enterprises set up under the Croydon Enterprise programme, has started recycling old PCs.

Eco, a company limited with guarantees, has been collecting old computers for a month at their new headquarters in Grafton Roadsharing with the Croydon ARC, Appliance Reuse Centre. Eco is now in talks with London Boroughs of Lewisham and Bromley to recycle their old computers.

ARCC has just won a contract from DHL for taking in old electrical equipment and is handling the IT equipment.

Eco also aims to start computer skills training for people in Croydon Enterprise's target groups, including people on low income, single mothers, over 50s and those who are unemployed.  People attending will be given a computer.

"My main aim is low income families with children because I feel children will fall further behind if they do not have a computer in their home," says Eco's Darren Taylor.
